The 2023 Queensland Pickleball Championships

06-Jul-2023

Pickleball Australia

The 2023 Queensland Pickleball Championships have come and gone and what a huge success they were. Over the four days, 516 players from every state or territory around Australia and even a large contingency of international players converged at Morayfield Sports and Events Centre to compete in the largest pickleball tournament in the Southern Hemisphere.

With 516 and only 22 courts, the team at PAQ and tournament director, Matt Hort had a challenge ahead of them. This was uncharted territory. However, for those that visited Morayfield to compete or spectate, you would have noticed how smooth the event ran with no delay and the professionalism in which the event was coordinated.

Wesley Vine, Gold Coast, and Bruce Winther, Peregian Springs, came out on top with quadruple crowns, winning the singles, doubles, mixed doubles and teams events in their age/skill levels and Mary Harding, Hervey Bay, taking a triple crown, winning the singles, doubles and mixed doubles in her age/skill level events. These players excelled over the weekend and have etched their names in Queensland pickleball histroy as a result.

Thank you to those sponsors who contributed to the success of the event. They included Moreton Bay Regional Council, Pickleball Superstore, Mismo and NuPlay. Without their continued support of pickleball in Queensland, the team at PAQ couldn't continue to achieve what they have to date.
