Australian Masters Cup
What is the Australian Masters Cup?
The Australian Masters Cup (AMC) was brought to life through a concept developed by Pickleball Australia’s Seniors, with the vision of creating a national, club-driven competition specifically for mature-age players. Launched in 2025, the inaugural season saw 39 clubs and more than 1,200 participants embrace the new league, delivering an outstanding first year marked by inclusivity, fun, and spirited competition.
Across a 10–12-week season, players of all skill levels battled for ladder positions within their clubs, building momentum and community as they went. Standout performers in the 50+, 60+, and 70+ age divisions earned the opportunity to advance through to regional, state, and ultimately national events, creating a clear and inspiring pathway for Australia’s Masters pickleball community.
At its core, the aim of the AMC is to provide:
- A national competitive pathway for players (50+)
The AMC is explicitly designed to “provide a national pathway for players aged 50+.” It gives mature-age players, many of whom may not have had prior competitive opportunities, a structured route from club → regional → state → national finals. - An inclusive, flexible & club-friendly format
Rather than being only for elite or highly competitive players, the AMC is built around club-level participation, with a focus on social engagement, supportive community, and enjoyment. Clubs run ladder-style leagues where participants can “book in” rather than having to organise fixed partners or commit long-term. - Accessibility for all skill levels (within age bracket)
The AMC doesn’t require a high skill level, many participants are “experienced and non-experienced” players alike. That makes it especially good for those who want to try competitive pickleball for the first time, within a comfortable, low-pressure environment. - Social engagement and community building
A major philosophy behind the AMC is described as “PLAYing pickleball with a purpose”, not just competing, but also providing social opportunities, connection, and building confidence for “masters-of-life”. For many older players, that social and community dimension is as important as the competition. - Flexibility and low commitment
Players can choose how often to play (e.g. join some weeks, skip others). Players are not “locked in” to play all sessions. This flexibility reduces pressure and accommodates people’s other commitments.
2026 Australian Masters Cup
The AMC returns in 2026 and will again provide a national pathway for players wishing to enter the competitive league environment and ultimately represent their state at the AMC National Finals. The league’s focus and attention will remain placed on players participating at a club level to ensure social engagement is front and centre.
PLAYing with a purpose is our philosophy behind building national participation via the AMC and as a result, membership for clubs, states and Pickleball Australia.
"PLAYing pickleball with a purpose"
What is PLAYing with a purpose?
As players, we are all on a continuous journey of mastering the game of pickleball to the best of our ability.
As masters of life, mature age pickleball players are motivated by a variety of reasons before stepping onto the pickleball court.
The AMC proposes competing within a supportive club environment where individual and team spirit is on show; building individuals confidence, enriching the experience for both experienced and non-experienced players.
The AMC provides a safe, localised, unintimidating environment for players.
