Representative Teams
Representative Teams
Pickleball Australia provides opportunities for eligible Australian resident players to represent Australia in officially sanctioned international pickleball competitions. Selection in an Australian representative team is a significant achievement and reflects a player’s performance, commitment, and adherence to the values of the sport.
Australian representative teams may compete in a range of international events, including world championships, regional international tournaments, test matches, and other approved competitions. Opportunities exist across multiple age groups and formats, supporting a broad and inclusive representative pathway for players at different stages of their pickleball journey.
Eligibility and Selection
To be eligible for consideration, players must be Australian residents and current financial members of Pickleball Australia. All selections are conducted in accordance with the Pickleball Australia Representative Team Selection Policy, which outlines the eligibility requirements, selection principles, assessment criteria, and processes used for representative team appointments.
Selection decisions are made using a combination of objective and subjective measures. These may include tournament results, national or international rankings, demonstrated skill level, match performance, and the ability to perform consistently in competitive environments. Where applicable, trials, training camps, or selection events may also form part of the selection process.
Pickleball Australia seeks to ensure that all selection processes are fair, transparent, and consistent, while selecting teams that best represent Australia in international competition.
Player Conduct and Responsibilities
All players seeking selection, or selected, in Australian representative teams must comply with the Pickleball Australia Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct sets out the behavioural standards expected of all participants, including respect for fellow players, officials, volunteers, opponents, and the broader pickleball community.
Representative players are expected to act as positive ambassadors for Pickleball Australia and for the sport. This includes demonstrating sportsmanship, professionalism, and integrity both on and off the court, and complying with team protocols, event requirements, and organisational policies.
Breaches of the Code of Conduct or failure to meet behavioural expectations may affect a player’s eligibility for selection or continued participation in representative programs.
Beyond the Court
Representing Australia may involve more than competition alone. Selected players may be required to participate in team preparation activities, official functions, promotional opportunities, and other engagements that support the profile and development of pickleball nationally and internationally.
These experiences contribute to team cohesion, national representation, and the continued growth of the sport in Australia.
Further Information
Players interested in representing Australia are strongly encouraged to review the Pickleball Australia Representative Team Selection Policy and the Pickleball Australia Code of Conduct, which provide detailed information regarding eligibility, selection criteria, and expected standards.
Pickleball Australia is committed to providing clear and inclusive pathways for Australian residents to represent their country with pride in international pickleball competition.
